Why is the cat next to you when you scoop the poop?
Cat watching you scoop poop may be a curious behavior of the cat or a manifestation of its territory awareness, which is a normal phenomenon. Additionally, some cats won't want to go to the bathroom if the litter box is not clean. Therefore, when the owner is cleaning the litter box, the cat will stay next to it and seriously supervise to see if you're cleaning thoroughly until the litter box is clean. After that, they might even immediately squat inside and defecate. Therefore, owners should always remember to clean the litter box on time.
- Curiosity
It's well known that cats are naturally curious animals. So when they see their owner doing something in their litter box, they will instinctively go over to take a look out of curiosity.
- Territory awareness
Cats have a strong sense of territory, and the litter box is where they often excrete. Therefore, they see the litter box as their territory. When they see you scooping the poop, they will follow you and watch, but if they find someone unfamiliar touching their litter box, they might even attack.
- Supervising whether the owner cleaned thoroughly
Cats are very clean animals, so when you scoop the poop, they also want to see if their owner has cleaned the area thoroughly. Some cats will even jump in to check, sniff, and use their paws to dig in the litter to see if you've cleaned well.
