Why is cat poop so smelly?
Most of a cat's daily diet consists of high-protein and high-fat ingredients, and compared to other animals, a cat's intestine is relatively short. In a healthy cat's intestine, there are bacteria such as Streptococcus and Lactobacillus, as well as most anaerobic bacteria. These bacteria will decompose proteins, starches, and other substances in the cat's food into substances with a bad smell such as hydrogen sulfide, ammonia, and indole. The smell of feces varies depending on the cat's age, breed, and health status.
Why is cat poop so smelly?
It may be because the cat has recently eaten more protein-rich food, such as meat. The feces of carnivores smell worse than those of herbivores because meat produces some gases during digestion, which have a strong odor. Therefore, the smell of a cat's feces is a normal phenomenon. If the owner wants to reduce the smell, they can choose better cat litter and clean the feces promptly.
Symptoms of cat indigestion
Cats with indigestion often have bad breath. Owners may notice severe halitosis when the cat wakes up or burps. Other symptoms of cat indigestion include loss of appetite, bloating, and increased bowel sounds. If a cat has indigestion, it can also cause diarrhea, increased frequency of defecation, and a sour smell in the feces.
Symptoms of cat digestive problems
Some signs of poor cat digestion include:
- Coarse fur: Due to poor digestive function, the cat's nutrient digestion and absorption capacity decreases, resulting in poor skin and fur nutrition, which leads to coarse fur.
- Soft feces: Feces contain undigested nutrients such as fat, causing the feces to be soft or even diarrhea.
