Why is my dog not peeing?
There are mainly two reasons for a dog not peeing: physiological and pathological reasons. physiological reasons include the dog drinking less water or not liking to drink water, which leads to reduced or no urine production, thus possibly resulting in no urination behavior. Pathological reasons involve the dog having urinary system diseases such as cystitis, urinary calculi, and urinary tract obstructions. Usually, the dog will also have difficulty urinating and abnormal urine symptoms. Owners should promptly take their dogs to the pet hospital for inspection and treatment.
- Insufficient water intake
If the dog usually drinks very little water, the produced urine will naturally decrease, resulting in no urination. To this end, owners can observe if the dog's usual water intake is indeed too low. If so, they need to encourage their dogs to drink more water, especially in hot summer days. Additionally, owners can feed the dog wet food, cans, or meat buns, which have a higher water content and are more suitable for dogs that don't like to drink water.
- Urinary system diseases
If the dog has urination behavior but cannot urine, it may be due to the dog having urinary system diseases such as cystitis, urinary calculi, or urinary tract obstructions. If this is the case, owners need to take their dogs to the pet hospital promptly for inspection and treatment.
