What to do if your dog doesn't poop or pee
There are several reasons why a dog may not poop or pee: constipation, intestinal obstruction, prostatitis, femoral hernia, prostatic protrusion, and neurological issues. Older dogs are prone to prostatic hypertrophy and prostatic protrusion, which can cause difficulty in defecation. In addition, spinal nerve issues may also cause abnormal intestinal peristalsis.
What to do if your dog doesn't poop or pee
- It may be due to a lack of food and water intake, or no intake at all. Without the water needed to form urine and the food needed to form stool, the dog won't defecate or urinate.
- It could be due to a unfamiliar environment, causing the dog to be tense and unwilling to urinate or defecate. Once the dog's emotions relax, it will defecate.
- The dog may be experiencing urinary pain, making it difficult to pass urine. Check for urinary tract stones blocking the尿道 and treat accordingly.
What are the symptoms of a dog with urinary stones?
A dog with urinary stones usually shows the following symptoms: restlessness, difficulty walking, pain, dysuria, frequent urination attempts, columnar urine output, lethargy, loss of appetite, etc. It is advised to take the dog to the vet promptly to avoid severe diseases such as urinary tract obstruction and renal failure.
How to deal with dog urinary stones
First, go to a pet hospital for an ultrasound examination to assess the urinary stone situation. If the stones are few and the dog's urethra remains unobstructed, choose internal treatment, including medication for urinary stones and prescription food for the urinary tract. However, if there are many stones and the dog shows signs of urinary tract obstruction, it is recommended to undergo surgery as soon as possible to remove the stones.
