Sexual Behavioral Characteristics of Blue Cats in Heat
Symptoms of Cat Heat:
- Male cats in heat will show random urination, rarely using the cat litter box. They may also display mating positions by mounting other cats.
- Female cats in heat exhibit mental excitement, constant wandering, and decreased or absent appetite. They become more affectionate, approach male cats actively, and frequently assume mating positions.
- The vulva of female cats swells and clear fluid flows out.
Why Do Blue Cats Go into Heat?
- Blue cats experience heat due to sexual hormones. When female blue cats reach around 8 months old, they become sexually mature and enter heat. This is because the hypothalamus secretes gonadotropin-releasing hormone, which causes blue cats to go into heat periodically.
- Male blue cats are stimulated to go into heat by the smell or hormones of female blue cats.
Blue Cat Heat Symptoms:
Blue cats in heat emit pitiful screams. Female blue cats show symptoms such as hind legs resembling water-walking, raised buttocks, and clear fluid discharge from the genitals. Male blue cats in heat urinate randomly and may constantly howl at night. Unmated blue cats experience intermittent heat for up to two weeks. It is best to keep them in cages during this time to prevent them from running away or jumping from heights.
How to Deal with Blue Cat Heat:
Temporary solutions include isolating blue cats from other animals and feeding them contraceptive or hormone drugs to suppress their heat. Alternatively, finding a healthy male or female blue cat for them to mate with. The permanent solution is to spay or neuter the blue cat. However, it is necessary to go to a regular hospital for the procedure to ensure a quick and healthy recovery for the cat.
