Physical symptoms of male cat heat

Male cats in heat show symptoms such as midnight howling, urinating anywhere, wanting to leave home to find female cats, and reduced appetite. During the heat period of a male cat, owners need to pay special attention to the cat's movements to prevent unexpected situations such as running away or jumping off the building. If the owner has no plan to let the cat breed, they can take the cat to the pet hospital for neutering after the heat is over, which can reduce the cat's suffering during the heat period and also reduce the incidence of reproductive system diseases.

  1. Midnight howling

During the heat period, male cats will howl at night to attract female cats. The physical changes brought on by the heat cause their voices to sound different from usual, possibly louder and sometimes even unpleasant. This can severely affect the sleep of the owner or neighbors in urban areas.

  1. Wanting to leave home to find female cats

When a male cat is in heat, if it hears the calls of other female cats or smells their scent, it will want to leave home to search for them. If the owner keeps the cat indoors and prevents it from going out, it might still attempt to escape through windows or balconies to mate. Therefore, it is recommended to always close windows and doors to prevent the cat from jumping off the building or running away.

  1. Defecating and urinating everywhere

During the heat period, some male cats will defecate and urinate anywhere in the house, such as on beds, sofas, and balconies. This is because they are using urine to mark their territory and attract female cats, wanting to expand their scent so that more opposite-sex cats can find them. In this case, owners can buy odor removers to clean the house and use cat-friendly snacks, toys, and catnip sticks to divert the cat's attention.

  1. Reduced appetite

Male cats in heat become excited and preoccupied with finding a mate, which can lead to a reduced appetite and refusal to eat. However, there is no need to worry too much. Owners can prepare some of the cat's favorite foods or cat cans to see if it improves its appetite.
