Brown Discharge from a Cat's Eye
If a cat's eyes only produce a small amount of brown discharge, it is normal. However, if there is an excessive amount of brown discharge, it is abnormal and may be caused by foreign body stimulation, improper diet, or eye inflammation. In this case, it is necessary to take the cat to the pet hospital for inspection. First, analyze the cause of the brown discharge from the cat's eyes, and then treat it accordingly to avoid delay in the diagnosis and treatment.
- Foreign Body Stimulation
If foreign objects such as dust, pollen, or hair accidentally enter a cat's eyes, the continuous stimulation of the eyes will cause the cat to produce tears. In this case, the owner can gently pry open the cat's eyes to check for foreign objects. If an object is found, physiological saline or eye wash can be used to rinse the cat's eyeball and remove the foreign object. If the object cannot be washed out, it is recommended to take the cat to the pet hospital for further treatment.
- Improper Diet
If the food a cat usually eats has a high oil and salt content, it will cause brown secretions from the eyes and may even form tear stains over time. In this case, the owner needs to adjust the cat's diet, focusing on lighter flavors. It is best to switch to ecological cat food with low oil and salt content. Do not feed the cat human food and always help the cat clean the secretions from its eyes.
- Eye Inflammation
If a cat has brown secretions from its eyes, along with symptoms such as red eyes and difficulty opening the eyes, it is suspected of having eye inflammation. In this case, first use anti-inflammatory eye drops for treatment. Then analyze the cause of the eye inflammation and adopt targeted treatment to eliminate the underlying disease. If the eye inflammation is caused by foreign body stimulation, in addition to using anti-inflammatory eye drops, physiological saline should be used to rinse out the foreign object. If the eye inflammation is caused by a bacterial infection, it is recommended to take the cat to the pet hospital for inspection and treatment immediately.
