Cat refuses to wear Elastoplast after neutering
The main reasons for a cat refusing to wear an Elastoplast after neutering are fear of the item or discomfort caused by wearing it. For the former, training is recommended to gradually accustom the cat to the Elastoplast neck collar. If the cat refuses to wear the Elastoplast neck collar due to discomfort, it is suggested to use a cotton Elastoplast neck collar.
Wearing an Elastoplast neck collar after cat neutering can prevent the cat from licking the surgical area, especially the site after surgery. If the cat has a skin disease, wearing an Elastoplast neck collar is also recommended to prevent licking. However, some cats may be afraid of Elastoplast, so when putting it on, be gentle and take steps to gradually accustom the cat to the collar.
In addition, some cats show strong resistance after wearing the Elastoplast neck collar, mainly because the material of the collar is plastic, which causes significant stimulation to the cat's neck, leading to a strong reaction. It is recommended to use a cotton neck collar, which looks like a swimming ring. This collar has a smaller impact on the cat and does not affect eating and drinking, nor does it stimulate the cat's neck.
The neck collar used for cats must be of suitable size, neither too loose nor too tight. A loose collar is prone to fall off, causing the cat to lick areas it should not, leading to wound infection or inflammation. A tight collar will cause discomfort and even hinder the cat's breathing.
Lastly, the neck collar is crucial for the recovery of some cat diseases, especially the wound recovery after suturing. If the collar is not worn properly, it may lead to broken stitches, wound dehiscence, or even severe infection.
