How many days after neutering can a cat remove the neck collar?
Generally speaking, it takes 7 to 10 days for the cat to remove the neck collar. Because the wound will gradually heal in 7 to 10 days, it is recommended that the owner put a neck collar or surgical clothing on the cat after the operation to prevent the cat from licking the wound. Therefore, the cat can remove the neck collar or surgical clothing at least 7 days after the operation, as the most worrying problem for the owner and attending doctor after the cat's neutering operation is preventing postoperative infection.
Here are some precautions for cats wearing neck collars:
Do not wear the neck collar until the cat is fully conscious after the operation, otherwise it may compress or block the trachea and throat, causing difficulty in breathing or suffocation. The neck collar should be worn about half an hour after the operation when the cat is fully conscious.
During the period of wearing the neck collar after the operation, if the cat is unable to eat or drink, the neck collar should be removed at each mealtime, observe and accompany the cat to eat and drink, and then put the neck collar back on.
The choice of neck collar type can be based on the cat's and owner's preferences.
The choice of neck collar size should not be too big or too small. After the cat wears it, there should be enough space for 1 to 2 fingers to fit between the neck and the neck collar.
If the cat accidentally licks the wound before the neck collar can be removed, disinfect the wound with iodine or go to veterinary clinics or pet hospitals for treatment to prevent more serious infections.
Each cat should have a "unique" neck collar and try not to use shared collars to avoid cross-infection of skin diseases or infectious diseases.
Keep the neck collar clean and dry. First, wash it with clean water, then wipe it with 75% alcohol for disinfection, and dry it before use.
