Cat is energetic but unwilling to eat
Cat is energetic but unwilling to eat could be caused by reasons such as expired food, picky eating, functional indigestion, and gastritis. If the cause is expired or picky food, the cat's reluctance to eat is a normal phenomenon and there is generally no need for excessive worry. However, if the cat shows an abnormal reluctance to eat and accompanied by other uncomfortable symptoms, such as nausea, vomiting, etc., it is recommended for the owner to take the cat to a regular hospital for treatment in time.
- Expired food
If the food given to the cat by the owner is not fresh and has gone bad, the cat will smell the spoilage through its sense of smell, resulting in a reluctance to eat. This is a normal physiological phenomenon and the owner should promptly change the food and choose fresh ingredients to improve the cat's eating habits. Generally, there is no need for medication.
- Picky eating
If the cat is picky about food, it will affect its normal appetite and lead to a reluctance to eat. The diet should be adjusted and the cat can be fed with cat food or cat cans to increase its appetite. Generally, no special treatment is needed.
- Functional indigestion
Usually caused by long-term overeating, it increases the burden on the gastrointestinal tract, affects the normal digestion of food, and causes symptoms such as excessive stomach acid secretion, acid reflux, and vomiting. At the same time, it also reduces the cat's appetite, leading to a reluctance to eat. However, the cat's spirit is good. Under the guidance of a doctor, medications to promote digestion can be taken.
- Gastritis
It may be caused by abnormal immune mechanisms and Helicobacter pylori infection, which damage the gastric mucosa and affect appetite. The cat may not show significant changes in its energy level but will be unwilling to eat. Medical treatment following the doctor's advice, such as medications to promote digestion or protect the gastrointestinal mucosa, should be followed.
