Purring sound of cat's teeth
*Cat's teeth making a rattling sound may be due to the cat being in the teething stage, causing itchiness and discomfort in its teeth. It could also be because the food the cat eats is too sticky, causing a rattling sound when the cat bites down.
In addition, if the cat has bad breath, swollen and bleeding gums, and ulcers, it could be due to gum inflammation, angular stomatitis, or oral ulcers. It is recommended to consult a veterinarian promptly for inspection and treatment.
- Teething stage
Usually, cats are in their peak teething period at 4-6 months old. During this time, kittens may experience itchiness and discomfort, prompting them to bite their teeth to alleviate the sensation. This is a normal phenomenon, and owners can provide chew toys or sticks to help the kittens relieve the discomfort.
Note: Avoid letting the kitten chew on hard objects such as bones, tables, chairs, or rocks, as these can easily damage their new teeth.
- Sticky food
If the food offered to the cat is too sticky, such as rice or glutinous rice products, a rattling sound will be produced when the cat bites down. Moreover, these sticky foods are likely to adhere to the cat's teeth, potentially leading to tartar formation over time. It is recommended to avoid feeding cats such foods.
- Oral diseases
If the cat has oral diseases such as gum inflammation, angular stomatitis, or oral ulcers, it may also grind its teeth frequently due to toothache and itchiness. Owners can check the cat's mouth by opening it, and if they find signs of red, swollen, and bleeding gums, ulcers, or bad breath, it is advised to consult a veterinarian promptly for inspection and treatment based on the examination results.
