Cat's urinary tract becomes hard
There are several possible reasons for a cat's urinary tract becoming hard. If the cat has been mated, it may be caused by pregnancy. Overfeeding can also cause the cat's belly to become hard. A swollen belly caused by feline infectious peritonitis or other abdominal fluid accumulation can feel hard when touched. Internal organ tumors can also cause a cat's belly to swell. It is best to take the cat to a pet hospital for relevant checks to confirm the cause of the disease.
Causes of round hard objects in the belly
Touching a round hard object in a cat's belly: Check if the foreign object is smooth, whether there are any foreign objects in the house that the cat might swallow, and observe if the cat is frequenting the litter box and its eating and mental condition. The cat's own organs can sometimes be felt, such as the bladder and kidneys with urine accumulation, or if the cat has swallowed a foreign object or has a large tumor inside.
Feline infectious peritonitis
Feline infectious peritonitis consists of dry and wet types, mainly caused by coronavirus. Cats may have a high fever, poor appetite, or even stop eating. Dry peritonitis usually does not cause the belly to become hard, but rather remains soft. Wet peritonitis mainly depends on the amount of abdominal fluid. If there is a large amount of fluid, it may compress the abdomen and cause a swollen and hard sensation. This is not common.
Treatment for a hard belly
If a cat's belly becomes hard, the first step is to identify the cause. If it is caused by excessive eating, it is necessary to increase the cat's exercise appropriately, promote intestinal peristalsis, and accelerate digestion. Massaging the cat's belly can also help stimulate intestinal peristalsis. Medication (such as Reglan) can be used to promote intestinal peristalsis. If the blockage is caused by an object, such as a hairball, a treatment plan can be developed according to the situation. In severe cases, surgery may be required to remove the object.
