Dog Breeding Methods

The common methods of dog breeding are natural mating and artificial assistance. Natural mating refers to placing a male and a female dog in the same place during their estrus period. After they get to know each other and play together, they will mate spontaneously, usually without the need for human intervention. In artificial assistance, a person holds the female dog, and another person guides the male dog to perform the mounting action. Generally, after several attempts, the male and female dogs will cooperate in mating.

  1. Natural Mating

Natural mating is the best breeding method. It is mainly suitable for cases where the male and female dogs have similar sizes and experience in mating, and the female dog has a noticeable estrus period and can withstand the pressure of the male dog on her body. Before breeding, let the male and female dogs get familiar with each other and exchange feelings. When both are in the optimal estrus period, let them mate freely in a quiet and comfortable environment.

  1. Artificial Assistance

If natural mating is not possible, artificial assistance is required. Generally, two people are needed for this process. One person holds the female dog's head, while another person guides the male dog to perform the mounting action. After the male dog mounts, help the male dog place its reproductive organ in the female dog's vagina and hold the female dog's abdomen to prevent her from sitting down. After the mating is successful, the female dog will lock the male dog's reproductive organ, and they will naturally separate after 20-30 minutes. Be careful not to separate them manually to avoid injury to the reproductive organs.

Note: Wait until the dog has fully developed before breeding, which usually occurs around 8-10 months. If the dog's development is not complete, problems such as unsuccessful mating, stillbirth, and difficult labor may occur.
