Pregnancy Care for Dogs

Points to Note for Dog Pregnancy

  1. Balance nutrition: During dog pregnancy, it's important to ensure a balanced diet. You can switch to pregnancy food and supplement proteins, vitamins, and minerals found in high-content foods such as beef, chicken breast, fish, and lamb. However, be cautious about the feeding amount to avoid excessive nutrition leading to obesity and delivery complications.

  2. Calcium supplementation: Besides adjusting the diet, owners should also pay attention to supplementing calcium for dogs to prevent postpartum hypocalcemia. Letting dogs sunbathe regularly also helps with calcium absorption.

  3. Keep warm: Dogs' immunity decreases during pregnancy, so owners must ensure they stay warm to avoid catching a cold. Additionally, provide a quiet, clean environment with good ventilation and avoid dampness.

  4. No vigorous exercise: Dogs can engage in moderate exercise during pregnancy, which is beneficial for their health and the fetus. However, vigorous exercise should be avoided to prevent miscarriage.

  5. Regular check-ups: About 20-30 days after mating, take your dog to the vet for an ultrasound and X-ray examination to check the number and health of the fetuses, allowing you to be more at ease.
