Symptoms of Dog Pregnancy Miscarriage

Dog pregnancy miscarriage usually presents with increased vaginal discharge, obvious abdominal pain, and may have symptoms of dark brown secretions, blood clots, and even purulent secretions. At the same time, the dog's spirit and appetite will decrease, and severe infections may occur, leading to high body temperature. Since the fetus stops developing, the dog's abdominal circumference will no longer increase, and the mammary glands will stop developing and stop secreting milk. Some dogs may not show clinical symptoms but have the fetus absorbed or dissolved.

The symptoms of dog pregnancy miscarriage can be divided into the following aspects:

  1. The dog may show labor signs before the expected delivery date and give birth to a deceased fetus.

  2. There may be vaginal bleeding, or even purulent or dark brown secretions due to fetal dissolution and absorption.

  3. The dog's vagina will secrete blood and fetal debris, accompanied by intense pain and discomfort.

  4. The dog's pregnancy symptoms disappear, such as being sleepy, increased appetite, etc. And the dog will show symptoms of mental depression, decreased appetite, and increased body temperature.

Note: It is recommended that owners bring their dogs to a pet hospital for inspection in a timely manner when they find the above symptoms during pregnancy. If there are still surviving fetuses, pregnancy can be allowed to continue. If there are no remaining fetuses, oxytocin can be used to promote the expulsion of uterine contents, and antibiotics may need to be combined with it. In severe cases, a uterine-ovarian resection may be required.
