Causes of Dog Miscarriage

The main causes of dog miscarriage include mechanical impact and jumping, infectious diseases, parasitic diseases and reproductive diseases, and endocrine disorders. After a dog miscarries, it is important to promptly determine the specific cause and take the dog to a pet hospital for uterine cleaning, inspection of the uterus and reproductive tract, and examination for lesions or bacterial infections. It is also necessary to pay attention to the dog's care, supplement its nutrition, keep it warm, maintain a clean and hygienic living environment, and prevent bacterial proliferation and infection to avoid sequelae.

  1. Miscarriage caused by mechanical impact and jumping

Dogs are usually active and love to jump, run, and play in their daily lives. If the owner does not limit the dog's movements during pregnancy, it is prone to miscarriage due to running, jumping, or excessive vigorous exercise.

  1. Miscarriage caused by various infectious diseases

Canine distemper, tuberculosis, infectious hepatitis, and other infectious diseases are the main causes of dog miscarriage. Therefore, before dogs are bred for reproduction, it is best to undergo a comprehensive physical examination to ensure that the dog is healthy and not affected by infectious diseases. Only then should breeding proceed.

  1. Miscarriage caused by parasitic diseases and reproductive diseases

When dogs suffer from parasitic diseases such as toxoplasmosis, miscarriage can occur frequently in clinical practice. Chronic endometritis, abnormal sperm and eggs, placental and membranous abnormalities are also among the main causes of dog miscarriage.

  1. Miscarriage caused by endocrine disorders

When a dog's endocrine system is imbalanced, it can easily lead to miscarriage. For example, hypothyroidism, insufficient progesterone secretion, systemic diseases, and malnutrition can cause the uterus and fetus to be the fragile part of the body, thus easily causing miscarriage.

Note: After a dog becomes pregnant, the owner should add more foods rich in vitamins and fibres to the dog's diet, feed the dog in small portions throughout the day, and provide scientific nutrition to reduce the likelihood of miscarriage to some extent. Also, avoid shocking the dog and ensure that it gets adequate exercise but avoid vigorous activities to prevent miscarriage.
