Symptoms of Dog Scabies

Common mites that infect dogs include demodex folliculorum, sarcoptes scabiei, and ear mites. Sarcoptes scabiei can cause skin redness and intense itching. Demodex folliculorum can cause red patches on the skin, and when the infection is severe, it can cause oily skin. Ear mites can cause an increase in ear discharge and itching. Mites can cause significant harm to dogs, so it is recommended to seek medical attention promptly.

Sarcoptes scabiei, Demodex folliculorum, and ear mites are common mites that infect dogs. Sarcoptes scabiei causes a severe skin disease, which is circular, slightly yellow, and raised on the back. The main symptoms of sarcoptes scabiei infection are intense itching and skin redness. General symptoms include hair loss, red patches, increased skin scales and crusts, and later skin thickening. It mostly infects the back, belly, and ear margins, with summer being the high-risk period. Diagnosis is usually confirmed by scraping skin fragments from the ear and back. Treatment typically involves using drugs containing ingredients such as doramectin and ivermectin, as well as addressing the infected area.

Demodex folliculorum mainly infects hairless areas such as the eyes, ears, and inner thighs. Clinical manifestations include visible red patches with varying sizes and well-defined boundaries, which usually do not cause itching. When mixed with other bacteria infections, it can cause itching. Severe infections can lead to extensive hair loss, skin edema, and abnormally oily skin. Diagnosis of Demodex folliculorum requires a combination of medical history, clinical symptoms, and skin scraping results. Treatment involves first cleaning the skin with warm disinfectant solution to remove dirt and crusts, partial hair trimming, etc. Then applying drugs containing milbemycin oxime, doramectin, etc. Ear mites can cause itching, odor, and increased discharge. Diagnosis is confirmed by ear canal examination and ear discharge analysis. It is recommended to clean the ear canal with pet-specific ear cleaner, then apply relevant ear medications, with a treatment cycle of 5 to 7 days.
