Puppy's stool is very soft
There are many reasons why a dog's stool might be a bit soft, such as food intolerance or environmental stress. In this case, you can feed the dog probiotics and carefully observe it. If the condition worsens, it is recommended to go to the vet in a timely manner. Additionally, parasite infections can also cause soft stools, as well as symptoms like diarrhea or canine coronavirus.
Causes of soft stools in dogs
When a dog has soft stools instead of diarrhea, it is usually due to indigestion, which often occurs when a dog eats too much at once. You can properly feed the dog some multi-enzyme tablets or probiotics to regulate its digestion and help with food digestion. At the same time, you need to adjust the amount of food fed to the dog at each meal, slightly reducing it to avoid further irritating its stomach and intestines.
Soft stool vs. diarrhea
Soft stool refers to the dog's excrement being relatively soft, although it has a formed shape, it does not dry out and contains more moisture. On the other hand, diarrhea refers to the dog's excrement being unformed, presenting as a watery or paste-like consistency, and in severe cases, as a spraying discharge. When a dog has soft stools, it may be due to excessive consumption of meat, which can be resolved by adjusting the dog's diet. However, when a dog has diarrhea, it is necessary to take the dog to the vet for inspection and treatment.
What to do if a puppy has soft stools
When a puppy eats too much, it can lead to soft stools. The owner can slightly reduce the feeding amount. If the puppy has a cold and develops soft stools, the owner can dress the dog and take care of its warmth. If the soft stools are caused by indigestion, the owner can soak the dog's food to make it soft or feed the dog easy-to-digest foods like milk cake, and practice timely, fixed, and quantitative feeding.
