Inflammation symptoms after dog surgery
Inflammation of the wound
After inflammation of the wound, there will be phenomena such as redness, swelling, heat, and pain, and an increase in secretions. Generally, postoperative anti-inflammation is carried out after surgery, including wound inflammation and systemic inflammation. Wound inflammation usually involves the use of topical antibacterial and anti-inflammatory sprays or ointments, applying medication according to the instructions daily. Systemic inflammation can be treated with oral antibiotics or injectable anti-inflammatory drugs, among which anti-inflammatory injections are divided into short-acting and long-acting types, with a duration of about a week.
What to do if the wound is inflamed
If the wound is just slightly red and has some exudate, wash the wound repeatedly with hydrogen peroxide, normal concentration iodine solution, and normal saline in sequence, keeping the wound dry. Apply external trauma medicine three times a day and wear an Elizabeth collar to prevent scratching or falling off. If the wound has become infected and abscessed, it is necessary to go to the hospital for treatment, including debridement, re-suturing, application of external trauma medicine, and oral administration of antibiotics. Avoid taking a bath for one week after surgery to maintain cleanliness and dryness of the wound.
Postoperative care
The main postoperative care is to promote wound recovery, body recovery, and prevent and control postoperative infection. Common surgical procedures include neutering in male dogs and spaying in female dogs, which are relatively simple and have no infected wounds, belonging to primary healing. Therefore, their care is also relatively simple, just avoiding licking the wound or contamination by other things, applying medication daily, and persistently administering anti-inflammatory injections or fluids. Usually, the wound can heal in about a week.
Postoperative nutrition
Dogs need to supplement nutrition after surgery, and attention should be paid to light diet planning. Dogs can eat some easily digestible dog food, drink bone broth, chicken broth, or fish broth, or eat easily digestible foods such as chicken breast. These foods are not only easy to digest but also nourishing, containing amino acids and proteins that enhance resistance. At the same time, avoid vigorous exercise for dogs.
