Symptoms of Inflammation after Cat Surgery
There are many symptoms of inflammation in cats after surgery. If the eyes are inflamed, there will be sticky eyes, tears, and purulent discharge. If the skin and claws are inflamed, they will be red, itchy, and some may show swelling. If the whole body of the cat is inflamed, it may refuse to eat and have poor vitality. It is necessary to take the cat to the pet hospital for examination and treatment.
Causes of Inflammation after Neutering
The possible cause of inflammation and infection of the wound after cat neutering is inadequate postoperative anti-infective treatment, such as not following the doctor's advice on infusion or wound disinfection. It may also be that the cat was not given an Elizabeth collar after surgery, so the cat would lick the wound itself. The mouth of the cat contains many bacteria, causing wound infection.
What to Do if the Wound is Inflamed
It is necessary to go to the hospital for wound cleaning and medication. If the wound is inflamed after surgical suturing, the stitches need to be removed and re-sutured, requiring aseptic operation. The fresh wound should be cleaned with metronidazole, disinfected with iodine alcohol, and applied with some ceftazidime powder to prevent inflammation. The wound is then sutured again, and medication should be applied daily. The Elizabeth collar should be worn to prevent the cat from licking the wound, and also to prevent other animals from licking it. The wound will heal automatically within seven days.
Diet for Wound Inflammation
After the cat's wound inflames, it can eat some high-nutrition food, but it is best to feed the cat with light-flavored food, and avoid containing too much salt and other additives. During the treatment, the cat should be given more water to drink, promoting metabolism and accelerating wound healing. The surrounding debris of the wound should be cleaned during treatment to prevent inflammation from worsening.
