Fleas on a golden retriever
Golden retrievers can get fleas, and it is recommended to buy external parasite prevention medicine for them. It's best to choose a slightly better one and avoid giving them a bath for a week after applying it. You can purchase external sprayers and spray them on your dog's hair, turning the hair over to ensure coverage. After spraying, brush their hair to make it smooth. Wait a week before giving them a bath. If there are still parasites, you can spray again. If the flea population is particularly large, you can give your dog oral flea prevention medicine, and fleas may start to fall off within 10 to 30 minutes.
Ways of parasite infection
Parasites can be easily contracted due to lack of regular external parasite prevention and frequent outdoor play. It is also possible to get infected when there are fleas in the home but no environmental parasite prevention is done, especially in places where fleas can hide, such as blankets and sofas. Or it could be contracted by contacting other dogs or cats with fleas. In addition, long-term exposure to damp and poorly ventilated environments can also lead to flea infections.
Symptoms of flea infection
If there are many fleas on your dog, you can directly see the fleas with the naked eye and find large numbers of red spots and flea excrement on your dog's body, along with frequent scratching. If it's difficult to detect fleas with fewer fleas on your dog, you can look for flea excrement carefully, such as small black dots attached to the hair.
How to prevent fleas
To prevent external parasites such as fleas and ticks on dogs, you can schedule monthly external parasite prevention. There are many types of external parasite prevention products on the market, and it's best to choose branded products to ensure safety and effective parasite control. External parasite prevention should be applied to areas where dogs can't lick, such as the neck and armpits.
