How to feed a newly born puppy
Breastfeeding
It is recommended to breastfeed the newly born puppy, as breast milk contains maternal antibodies that can enhance the puppy's immunity. If there is no breast milk or the mother dog refuses to feed, artificial feeding will be necessary.
Feed the puppy with pet-specific goat milk powder mixed with water, using a bottle to prepare the milk. Feed the puppy every 3 hours intervals. Be cautious not to feed too quickly to avoid choking the puppy.
Artificial Feeding
If the mother dog has no milk or is unable to care for her puppies, the owner will need to feed the newly born puppy. It is advised to purchase pet-specific hypoallergenic goat milk powder from a legitimate source.
Due to the small appetite of the newly born puppy, each feeding should be around 2ml. The puppy usually needs to be fed every 2-3 hours, including during the night to prevent low blood sugar and shock. The feeding amount can be gradually increased and the feeding time extended after 15 days.
Use warm water (30-40℃) to mix the goat milk powder, and try to feed the puppy with freshly prepared milk.
Keep Warm
Because the newly born puppy's temperature regulation system is not yet developed and its resistance is relatively weak, the owner needs to pay attention to keeping the puppy warm to prevent catching a cold.
Since the newly born puppy cannot urinate or defecate on its own, the owner should use a wet cotton swab to gently wipe around the puppy's anus, stimulating it to excrete feces.
