How to Judge if a Cat is Blind
To determine if a cat is blind, owners can use items the cat is interested in, such as a palm or a cat toy, and swing them back and forth in front of the cat, then observe the cat's reaction. Secondly, you can use fingers or flashlights to continuously rotate or turn on and off towards the cat's eyes, and observe if the cat's eyes have any response. Additionally, you can also observe if the cat has any abnormal reactions in daily life, such as unusual walking, inability to avoid obstacles, or not knowing how to turn corners.
- Swing your palm or cat toy
After going blind, cats cannot see anything. Therefore, you can choose to swing your palm or a cat toy back and forth in front of the cat without making any noise, and observe if the cat's head follows the cat toy. Then, make the cat toy make noise, and observe if the cat's head or gaze follows the cat toy. If the head does not turn when there is no sound, but turns when there is sound, it is very likely that the cat is blind. It is recommended to take the cat to the pet hospital for inspection as soon as possible.
- Rotate fingers or turn on and off flashlights
After going blind, a cat's sensitivity to the environment decreases. Therefore, you can use your fingers or a flashlight to continuously rotate or turn on and off towards the cat's eyes, and observe if the cat's eyes can normally rotate and have a response. If the cat has no response, it means the cat is already blind.
- Observe if the cat has any abnormal reactions
Research shows that before a blind cat learns to adapt, it will always have unusual reactions that are different from its usual behavior. The cat will be unwilling to leave its nest, will not go to the cat toilet, and become more solitary in its personality. Even when interacting and playing, it may not be able to respond excitedly. In addition, cats who have lost their vision also have a decreased sensitivity to their environment, often bumping into things when walking and not knowing how to turn corners.
