How to know if a cat has a miscarriage
Cats are particularly prone to miscarriage during pregnancy, and the symptoms of miscarriage vary at different stages. Generally, miscarriage in the early stages of pregnancy has no visible clinical symptoms and no external genital secretions. If a miscarriage occurs in the late stages of pregnancy, it is likely to produce underdeveloped stillbirths.
How to judge whether a mother cat has a miscarriage
Cats' miscarriage can be divided into premature birth, stillbirth, mummy fetus, fetal dissolution, etc. There are mainly two ways to judge whether a cat has a miscarriage: observe whether the cat has any abnormal expressions. If a miscarriage occurs soon after pregnancy, it is difficult to detect. The cat's vulva will occasionally secrete pink fluid. If the pregnancy exceeds one month, there will be a large amount of red secretions from the vulva and abdominal pain. If it is premature birth, the cat will give birth to live, stillborn or mummy fetuses before the expected delivery date. Ultrasound examination is required, and the owner should take the cat to the hospital for inspection.
Causes of cat miscarriage
The causes of cat miscarriage can be divided into infectious and non-infectious. Infectious miscarriage occurs when the object is infected by bacteria, viruses, protozoa, etc., causing miscarriage. Non-infectious miscarriage is caused by endocrine disorders, chronic endometritis, adverse external environmental stimuli, and mechanical injury. Artificial abortion and treatment are required according to the condition.
Points to note after cat miscarriage
After a cat miscarriage, attention should be paid to two aspects. Firstly, whether the afterbirth has been completely discharged. X-ray or ultrasound diagnosis can be taken, and if it has not been completely discharged, oxytocin can be used to promote evacuation. Otherwise, if the afterbirth remains in the abdominal cavity for a long time, it can cause abdominal infection, even abdominal abscess and toxicemia, which may threaten life. Secondly, attention should be paid to postpartum care. Antibiotics should be used to prevent inflammation, ensure nutrition supply, and slightly use oxytocin to promote the discharge of lochia.
