How to prevent cats from peeing on the bed
To prevent cats from peeing on the bed, owners first need to understand the reasons why cats pee on the bed. Firstly, if it's because the cat's litter box is too dirty or has a strong smell, owners need to clean the litter box promptly. Secondly, if it's because there is a residual urine smell on the bed, the owner needs to thoroughly remove the smell. Furthermore, if the cat is in heat, consider neutering the cat. Lastly, if it's due to lack of training, the owner needs to teach the cat to use the litter box. Additionally, since cats with urinary tract diseases may also pee on the bed, owners need to rule out medical reasons.
- Clean the litter box regularly
Cats are very clean animals. If the owner does not clean the litter box in a timely manner, the litter box may become too dirty or have a strong smell, causing the cat to choose to pee on the bed. Therefore, the owner should regularly clean the litter box and change the litter.
- Remove the residual smell from the bed
After a cat pees on the bed, the bed will retain the urine smell. If the cat always likes to pee on the bed, it may be because there is a residual urine smell on the bed. Therefore, when the cat pees on the bed, the owner must clean up the cat's urine and remove the smell. Otherwise, the cat will pee on the bed again based on the scent it left behind.
Usually, the owner should first soak the area where the cat peed on the bed with clean water, then use laundry detergent or powder to rub and wash the urine-soaked area. After washing, the owner can use a deodorizer or squeeze some orange peels into a paste and spray a little on the urine spot. Finally, let it dry.
- Neutering
During their heat, cats will display behaviors such as urinating everywhere and howling, mainly to spread their scent and attract the attention of male cats. For this situation, if there is no breeding requirement, the owner can have the cat undergo a neutering surgery during the non-breeding period to improve the cat's habit of peeing on the bed.
- Strengthen training
If the owner does not train the cat to use the litter box, it can lead to the cat peeing on the bed. Therefore, the owner needs to train the cat in a timely manner. After repeated training, the cat's habit of peeing on the bed can be corrected.
- Rule out medical reasons
A cat peeing on the bed may also be due to a urinary tract infection. Because of frequent urination, the cat may not be able to control itself and pee on the bed, and may also exhibit symptoms such as difficulty urinating, pain, and hematuria. If the cat shows any abnormal symptoms above, the owner should take the cat to the pet hospital for examination and treatment as soon as possible.
