How to prevent motion sickness in puppies
To prevent motion sickness in puppies, owners can purchase veterinary-approved motion sickness medication or injections from a pet hospital. Additionally, when dogs are riding in a car, owners can open the windows appropriately to improve ventilation and play with the dog to distract them, which can help prevent motion sickness. If these methods do not work and the dog exhibits severe vomiting symptoms, it is recommended to stop at the nearest pet hospital for treatment.
- Give motion sickness medication
The primary types of motion sickness medication for dogs include anti-nausea drugs and phenothiazine-containing drugs, which can be purchased at a pet hospital. These drugs can calm the dog and reduce vomiting incidents. However, owners should note that the use of these medications usually requires guidance from a veterinarian and should not be used blindly. Additionally, owners should not give human motion sickness medication to dogs, as this can easily lead to poisoning.
- Open windows for ventilation
During driving, it is recommended to open the windows to improve air circulation. However, owners should also pay attention to the dog's safety and prevent them from jumping out of the window. If possible, owners can also stop the car periodically to let the dog breathe fresh air.
- Distract the dog
Owners can prepare some toys that the dog loves to play with in the car. Playing with the dog can distract them and make them feel relaxed. Owners can also put eye masks on the dogs to prevent them from looking out the window, which can effectively prevent motion sickness.
Note: For short trips, owners can try not to feed their dogs for up to 6 hours before departure, which can help reduce the likelihood of vomiting due to motion sickness.
