How to stimulate a cat to urinate

Stimulating a cat to urinate requires the owner to first find the reason why the cat is not urinating, and then take targeted measures.

Firstly, if it's because the kitten is young and doesn't know how to urinate independently, the owner needs to wipe its anus with a cotton swab or soft paper towel to stimulate urination.

Secondly, if the cat doesn't urinate because it usually drinks too little water, the owner needs to find a way to make the cat drink more.

Finally, if the cat is unable to urinate due to urinary system diseases such as bladder stones, cystitis, or urethral stones, it's time to go to the pet hospital for inspection and treatment.

  1. Newborn kittens

Newborn kittens cannot urinate independently, so the mother cat or owner needs to stimulate the urethra to promote urination. If the cat mother is not around, the owner must gently wipe the kitten's urethra with a cotton swab or soft paper towel. The kitten should start urinating after a while. Usually, help it urinate after each meal.

  1. Adult cats
  1. Encourage the cat to drink more water

If the cat's diet is relatively dry and it drinks less water, there won't be enough water in the body to metabolize, and urine cannot be formed and excreted. In this case, the owner needs to find a way to guide the cat to drink more water to replenish the water it needs and speed up the production of urine.

If the cat doesn't like to drink water, the owner can dilute the cat's food with pet-specific goat milk, boil bone soup, or chicken soup to make the cat喜欢喝水,or prepare an automatic water dispenser to increase the cat's curiosity about water.

  1. Seek medical attention in a timely manner

If the cat has urinary system diseases such as bladder stones, cystitis, or urethral stones, it will be unable to urinate normally due to pain or urethral blockage, and may also accompany hematuria and frequent urination. At this time, stimulation is ineffective, and the cat needs to be taken to the pet hospital for inspection to determine the cause, and then treated accordingly with medication or surgery.
