How to Train a Cat to Use the Toilet

Cats are naturally inclined to bury their excrement to avoid being tracked by predators. Therefore, kittens who live with their mother cats from a young age usually learn to use the cat litter box when they start walking. They also imitate their mother's toilet habits by burying their feces. If a cat stops using the litter box, it can be placed with other cats for a period of time to learn how to use it.

Why do cats randomly defecate and urinate?

There are several reasons for cats to defecate randomly: 1. If the cat starts to defecate on the bed when it first comes home, it may think that's the place to go. 2. Sudden large-scale stress can cause cats to be scared and lose control of their bowels, sometimes leaving severe psychological shadows. Change the bedding immediately after the cat defecates on it to avoid misleading it into thinking it's the designated toilet area.

What to do about cats defecating and urinating randomly?

Possible reasons include: 1. During mating season, cats may exhibit excited, anxious behavior, loss of appetite, irritability, and random urination, especially male cats. This will improve after the mating season or after neutering. 2. Urinary tract infections cause cats to experience pain while urinating, leading to frequent urination and random defecation, even bloody urine. Consult a veterinarian promptly to identify the cause and cooperate with treatment.

How to Teach a Cat to Use the Toilet

  1. Choose a specific spot for the cat to defecate in the toilet.
  2. Place the cat's excrement in that spot.
  3. Hold the cat and bring it to the designated area, allowing it to smell the excrement so it knows it can defecate there.
  4. If the cat starts using the area as a toilet, reward it appropriately after defecation as encouragement. With this method, the cat will learn to use the toilet.
