How to Teach Your Dog to Use the Toilet in a Fixed Place

1. Reward and Punishment Method

First, prepare a dog-specific toilet and place it in a clean and well-ventilated area. This will not only help your dog adapt to the fixed excretion area more quickly but also ensure better hygiene and prevent the growth of bacteria. Place some paper towels or newspapers contaminated with your dog's excrement inside the toilet.

Usually, dogs have an urge to excrete about 20-30 minutes after eating, and they may show signs like circling and squatting with their hindquarters raised. At this time, guide your dog to the designated toilet area, making sure not to frighten it. After the dog finishes excreting, promptly reward and comfort it at the exit of the toilet. You can use your dog's favorite food or toys as incentives. If the dog doesn't defecate at the specified location, be patient and repeat the process several times to help it gradually adapt.

In addition, if your dog randomly excretes elsewhere during daily life, gently scold it to make it aware of right and wrong behaviors, ultimately forming a habit of using the fixed toilet area.

2. Encouragement Method

You can purchase a dog-specific encouragement spray and spray it in the area where you want your dog to excrete. Once the dog smells it, it will be encouraged to use that spot as a toilet. This method is relatively quick and saves effort, but it may not be suitable for all dogs. Choose according to your dog's specific situation.
