How to Train a Labrador Puppy to Pee and Poop in a Designated Area
Training a Labrador puppy to pee and poop in a designated area requires enough patience from the owner. Normally, puppies will start defecating 30 minutes after eating and some puppies will start defecating 30 minutes after waking up. Owners can take advantage of these time points to teach their puppies to pee and poop in a designated area, and appropriately reward them when they succeed.
To teach a Labrador puppy to pee and poop in a designated area, the owner should first prepare a cage, a clean dog toilet, pee pads, reward snacks, and odor neutralizing spray. Among these, the odor neutralizing spray is mainly used for environmental disinfection and removal of odors. Puppies will have impressions of places with smells, so owners should clean up the areas where they have peed or pooped before teaching them to pee and poop in a designated area, to prevent the puppies from going to the wrong place. After setting up the dog toilet in a fixed location, place the pee pads inside, put the puppy in the cage, and pay attention to its actions. When the puppy starts circling and sniffing the ground, it indicates that it has the urge to defecate. At this time, the owner can pick up the puppy and put it on the dog toilet, and supervise it until it finishes defecating. If the puppy wants to leave the dog toilet before finishing, pick it up and put it back until it circles and sniffs the ground on the dog toilet, successfully defecating. Give the puppy a reward after successfully defecating on the dog toilet.
In addition to the 30 minutes after eating, the 30 minutes after waking up, and when the puppy drinks a lot of water, it will have urination movements. Owners need to observe their puppies more and patiently guide them.
