How to Treat Dog Coccidiosis
If your dog is infected with coccidia, routine deworming medications will not be effective in killing the parasites. You must use drugs containing sulfonamide components, and concurrently feed your pet with probiotics. Treatment generally takes effect within a week, and most dogs can recover fully. However, if your dog has severe vomiting and diarrhea, and exhibits a poor mental state, it is advisable to take your dog to the vet for fluid therapy.
Coccidia is a common parasite, and many dogs are asymptomatic carriers. However, if infected, it cannot heal itself and requires timely medication.
If your dog contracts coccidia, it usually requires treatment for 3-7 days. Regular deworming medications are ineffective against coccidia, and sulfonamide-containing drugs must be used for dog deworming. You can also feed your dog with probiotics to help regulate its gastrointestinal function. If your dog's vomiting and diarrhea are severe, take it to the vet for fluid therapy.
Furthermore, daily medication actually plays a limited role in preventing coccidia infection. It is recommended that dog owners pay more attention to feeding and ensure that dogs do not consume dirty water or food. Keep your dog's living environment clean by frequently cleaning.
