Old dog with tumor cannot undergo surgery
Tumors are relatively serious diseases. If the tumor type is aggressive or the tumor is close to large blood vessels, conservative treatment is generally recommended. The age of the dog determines its tolerance to surgery. For such a high-risk surgery, it is not advisable for the owner to perform it, lest the dog cannot survive the operation. In the dog's final days, the owner should prepare to accompany it.
- Causes of dog tumors
Dog tumors are mainly caused by external and internal factors, such as ultraviolet rays, hormones, bacteria, virus infections, and the harm of radioactive substances. There are also genetic factors involved. Therefore, care should be taken to prevent dogs from being infected with bacteria and viruses.
- Symptoms of dog tumors
Subcutaneous tumors usually appear as a prominent lump under the skin, which is hard to touch. In benign tumors, the lump grows slowly, while in malignant tumors, the growth is faster.
Some tumors within the body cavity are not easily observable, and therefore require the use of instruments for diagnosis, such as ultrasound, X-ray, and puncture.
How to treat and care for dog tumors
Surgical removal: Young, strong dogs with good physical fitness can try surgery and undergo some rehabilitation treatment.
Conservative treatment: For malignant tumors or older dogs, conservative treatment is necessary.
Radiotherapy: This therapy involves the use of high-energy rays to kill cancer cells.
Chemotherapy is another option, but it also has some side effects, so it should be combined with conservative treatment.
