Pregnant Dogs and Raw Eggs
Raw Eggs Are Harmful to Pregnant Dogs
Pregnant dogs should not eat raw eggs because they may contain salmonella, a bacteria that can cause severe gastrointestinal reactions and diarrhea in dogs. Additionally, raw eggs are not easily digestible and do not promote the absorption of nutrients by dogs.
Dangers of Eating Raw Eggs
The white and yolk of a raw egg contain many microorganisms, pathogenic bacteria, and parasite eggs. Dogs who eat raw eggs may experience diarrhea, vomiting, and parasite infections. Raw eggs may contain pathogenic bacteria such as E. coli and salmonella, which can cause bacterial gastroenteritis in dogs.
How to Feed Eggs During Pregnancy
It is recommended to feed dogs boiled white eggs, which can kill many microorganisms through heating. The protein in eggs can promote muscle growth in dogs and improve gastrointestinal digestion. However, it is best not to feed dogs eggshells, as they are brittle and hard. If dogs eat eggshells accidentally, they may get lodged in their throats, causing unnecessary trouble.
Causes of Diarrhea After Eating Raw Eggs
There may be two reasons why dogs experience diarrhea after eating raw eggs. First, raw eggs have a lubricating effect on the intestines, acting as a mild laxative that causes diarrhea. Second, raw eggs may contain parasites or pathogens, which can cause infections after being eaten by dogs. The infection disrupts the normal physiological function of the intestines, leading to diarrhea due to digestive and absorption dysfunction.
