How much food does a Teddy bear dog eat in a day?
The number of feedings per day for Teddy bear dogs at different age stages varies. Generally, 0-3 month old Teddy bear puppies should be fed about 5-6 times a day; 3-6 month old Teddy dogs should be fed 4-5 times a day; and 6 months to 1 year old Teddy dogs should be fed about 3 times a day. Once the Teddy dog reaches adulthood, it only needs to be fed 1-2 times a day. For elderly Teddy dogs, feeding them 3 times a day at regular intervals is sufficient. As for the exact amount of food, it depends on the size of the dog's belly after eating. After the dog finishes eating, you can touch its belly: if it's slightly swollen, it means the dog has eaten too much; if it's very flat, it means the dog hasn't eaten enough. Generally, it's appropriate for a dog to be moderately full.
1. 0-3 month old puppies
During the first 30 days after birth, Teddy puppies rely mainly on breast milk. Three weeks after birth, the puppies start to grow teeth. At this point, besides breastfeeding, you should also add some weaning foods to their diet. You can mix some boiled water or dog milk into the puppy food, making it softer and more nutritious. The number of feedings varies depending on the individual differences of the weaning puppies, and 4-6 feedings per day is the most suitable.
2. 3-6 month old puppies
Four to five feedings per day are acceptable. During this stage, the puppies are in a period of rapid growth and development, so they need more nutrients than adult dogs and therefore eat more. When feeding puppies, follow the principle of feeding small amounts frequently, ensuring that they are 70% full. Overfeeding can increase the digestion burden on the puppies and cause stomach discomfort.
3. 6 months to 1 year old
At this stage, Teddy dogs can be fed three times a day: breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Make sure the feeding intervals are evenly distributed to help them develop a regular eating habit.
4. Adult Teddy dogs
Once Teddy dogs reach adulthood, they only need to be fed 1-2 times a day, preferably in the morning and evening. Adult dogs have stronger stomachs than puppies, so you can appropriately feed them snacks and teeth cleaning sticks to prevent oral problems.
5. Elderly Teddy dogs
Feed elderly Teddy dogs three times a day at regular intervals. Since dogs lose their teeth and lose their chewing ability as they age, it's recommended to soak the dog food before feeding it to the dog to make it softer.
Note: The information provided above is general and may vary depending on the individual dog's needs. Always consult your veterinarian for specific advice on feeding your Teddy dog.
