What's going on with my cat's excessive sleeping?

Considering that cats are naturally inclined to sleep, as long as they are mentally normal during their waking hours, there shouldn't be any major issues. Secondly, if a cat is often left alone, it may choose to sleep due to boredom, so owners should spend more time accompanying their cats. However, if the cat exhibits other abnormal symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, depression, loss of appetite, etc. in addition to excessive sleeping, it is likely due to a disease cause, and it is recommended that the owner consult a pet doctor in a timely manner.

  1. Innate nature

Normally, an adult cat's sleeping time is around 16 hours. For young cats, they need to sleep at least 18 hours during this stage, so they may appear to be sleepy and have fewer eating hours, which can mislead owners into thinking that the cat is not energetic. This situation does not require excessive worry, as it is a cat's inherent nature.

  1. Boredom

Some cats, when feeling bored or lonely, will choose to sleep continuously. They usually prefer to lie on the owner's bed or sofa, where the owner's scent is heavy. Sometimes they will sleep for an entire day, waiting for the owner to return. Therefore, owners should spend more time with their cats and play with them regularly, which is beneficial to the cat's physical and mental health.

  1. Disease causes

If a cat suddenly becomes excessively sleepy and is accompanied by symptoms such as depression, decreased appetite, weight loss, vomiting, and diarrhea, it is likely due to a disease cause. For example, colds, feline infectious peritonitis, and feline distemper, etc., the owner needs to take the cat to a pet hospital for examination and treatment promptly.
