Why do cats always sleep?

Cats sleeping alot may be due to their nature. When cats are not in danger, they will remain relaxed and sleep for longer periods, usually reaching up to 16 hours or even more. Additionally, if the ambient temperature is too low or the cat is sick, it will increase its sleep time. However, if a cat suddenly becomes excessively sleepy, accompanied by symptoms such as low spirits, decreased appetite, weight loss, vomiting, etc., it might be sick. Owners should take their cats to the pet hospital promptly for inspection and treatment to prevent the condition from worsening.

Innate nature

If the cat's mental state is good, its eating and defecation are normal, and it sleeps every day, it is likely due to its inherent nature. When cats are not in danger, they remain relaxed and sleep for longer periods, usually reaching up to 16 hours or even more. Cats are nocturnal animals, preferring to sleep during the day and active at night after their owners have rested. Therefore, besides playing, eating, or drinking, cats spend most of their time sleeping.

Cold weather

They can provide a warm and comfortable environment for the cat, such as preparing a warm nest or dressing the cat, to help it maintain its body temperature and stay healthy.

Illness

If a cat suddenly becomes excessively sleepy and is accompanied by symptoms such as low spirits, decreased appetite, weight loss, vomiting, or diarrhea, it may be sick. Conditions such as colds, feline infectious peritonitis, and feline distemper may cause these symptoms. If this occurs, owners should take their cats to the pet hospital promptly for inspection and treatment to rule out any potential diseases and adopt appropriate measures for treatment.
