Low growl from a mother cat
: When a mother cat makes this sound, it first indicates that her mood is not very good. The low growl represents a warning, indicating that she is feeling tense and scared about her current environment, lacking a sense of security. Therefore, she warns people around her not to approach her through this sound. If this sound is caused by a pathological disease, accurate judgment is required and she should be taken to the hospital for treatment.
Firstly, when a mother cat releases a low growl, it may be due to unfamiliarity with her surroundings or stress. In this case, the cat might exhibit aggressive behavior towards anyone who approaches her. It is not recommended to perform any operations such as restraint or drug injection at this time. It is suggested that the cat's familiar and close person gradually approach her to comfort her, ease her emotions, and reduce her tension. If the owner approaches her and she still exhibits aggressive behavior, it is best not to approach her and cover the cage or cat carrier with a cloth to block her vision, or let her herself calm down before proceeding with any operations to avoid injury.
Secondly, when a mother cat is with her kittens, if she sees threats to herself or her kittens, such as strangers, other cats or dogs, she will growl to warn them, which is a form of protection for herself and her kittens and a warning against threats.
Lastly, a mother cat may emit a pathological growl due to respiratory diseases, oral diseases, or neurotoxicity. This is because the cat may have respiratory problems, such as having some sticky substance in her trachea. If there is no improvement for a few days, she needs to go to the hospital for examination, such as a complete blood count and X-ray to see if her trachea is narrowed or inflamed, and then cooperate with the pet doctor for treatment.
