What are the symptoms of dog pyoderma?

The main symptoms of dog pyoderma include skin papules, itching, hair loss, pain, and fever. In the early stages of the disease, red papules will appear around the dog's eyes, mouth, and nostrils, and later spread to the whole body. The top of the papules has white bubbles. As the disease progresses, pyoderma can cause itching, and the dog may unconsciously scratch its skin, causing swelling, pus, and even circular hair loss. When the dog's skin is severely ulcerated, inflammation can spread to other parts of the body, causing pain, fever, or cellulitis.

  1. Skin papules

One of the typical symptoms of pyoderma is the appearance of red papules on the skin. In the early stages of pyoderma, the dog's body will develop some small red papules, usually starting from the mucous membrane skin junction areas such as around the eyes, lips, and nostrils, in a symmetrical distribution. If the dog's symptoms are severe, prominent red papules will appear all over the body.

These papules will initially have a small bubble, which will rupture and form a large scab, and may even ooze pus. Microscopic examination can reveal a large number of staphylococci.

  1. Itching and hair loss

Pyoderma can cause severe itching, which leads the dog to scratch itself unconsciously. This may cause wounds on the skin with papules, and the skin in this area may even ulcerate and ooze inflammatory secretions. Additionally, the hair loss caused by pyoderma is generally circular, as the affected area will have a swollen circular rash, and hair loss may occur after skin ulceration or repeated scratching.

  1. Pain and fever

When a dog has pyoderma and the papules or pustular rash is not treated in time, it容易化脓发炎。As the disease worsens, inflammation will spread to surrounding body tissues and cause pain, fever, or cellulitis.
