What causes false pregnancy in dogs?
False pregnancy in dogs is mainly caused by hormonal disorders. Secondly, when the dog's corpus luteum undergoes pathological changes, or the dog suffers from endometritis, uterine fluid retention, or pyometra, etc., false pregnancy may occur. In addition, if a dog is fed food or growth promoters containing a large amount of estrogen, causing hormonal imbalance in the dog's body, false pregnancy can also occur.
- Caused by internal hormone disorders
Internal hormone disorders are the most common cause of false pregnancy in dogs. False pregnancy usually occurs after a female dog's estrus. After a dog's estrus, hormones in her body change, preparing the uterus for pregnancy. If the dog becomes pregnant, hormones will continue to be produced. If the dog does not become pregnant, hormone levels will begin to decrease after 4-6 weeks. False pregnancy occurs when the amount of progesterone secreted by the corpus luteum in the dog's body is similar to that of a pregnant dog and lasts for a prolonged period.
- Caused by reproductive diseases
When the corpus luteum in a dog's body undergoes pathological changes, it can lead to abnormal progesterone secretion. If the dog suffers from endometritis, uterine fluid retention, or pyometra, etc., it can also cause abnormal secretion, thus causing false pregnancy in dogs.
- Caused by eating food containing a large amount of estrogen
Some owners feed their dogs food or growth promoters containing a large amount of estrogen to accelerate their growth. This can easily disrupt the dog's hormonal balance, leading to false pregnancy.
