What to do if your dog has a false pregnancy
Some female dogs experience false pregnancy even though they haven't been bred during their heat cycle. This isn't a disease, and it can happen to any female dog with a normal heat cycle.
How to improve a dog's false pregnancy:
1. Stop feeding and providing water to your dog. Cut off its nutrition.
2. If your dog is medium or large sized, restrict water and food for 24 hours.
3. If your dog is small, stop feeding for 24 hours and restrict water intake for 8 to 12 hours. This will cause the dog to wean itself.
4. After your dog has eaten, don't immediately return to the normal feeding amount. Gradually increase the amount of food gradually. For example, if your dog eats 10 dog food pieces the first day, feed it 15 the next day.
What are the symptoms of a dog's false pregnancy?:
1. The dog's personality may change. It may become possessive of its toys and bite people.
2. The dog's appetite decreases, and it may vomit yellowish liquid. Its abdominal diameter increases.
3. Some female dogs may develop breast swelling and produce milk. This is a sign of false pregnancy.
False pregnancy in female dogs is not a disease:
1. Don't worry, false pregnancy is not a disease. It doesn't mean that your dog's endocrine system is disorders. While sterilization may be necessary, it's not because of the false pregnancy. False pregnancy actually proves that the dog's heat cycle is normal. If you breed it again, it will likely have puppies.
2. Female dogs with false pregnancy do not need hormone treatment.
3. If your female dog has a false pregnancy, there's no need for any treatment. Don't give it estrogen shots or sterilize it for this reason.
