What foods cannot Teddy dogs eat?
Teddy dogs should avoid foods such as onions, scallions, grapes, chocolate, and xylitol. Additionally, hard bones that are difficult to digest and sharp at the break point are not recommended for feeding. It is suggested to feed dog food regularly, along with canned dog food, freeze-dried products, and other dog snacks. Human food should be avoided as much as possible.
There are several foods that Teddy dogs should not eat. Firstly, it is not recommended to feed dogs with onions or scallions. These foods can easily cause hemolysis in dogs, clinical manifestations include hematuria, loss of appetite, and depression. A complete blood count can show a large number of destroyed red blood cells, and a blood smear examination can reveal a large number of Heinz bodies.
Secondly, grapes or foods containing grapes are not advised to be fed to dogs. Certain components in grapes can lead to poisoning in dogs and severely damage their liver and kidney function. Moreover, the toxic dose of grapes and the individual's body weight have little relationship. Even if a dog accidentally eats a couple of grapes, it may cause severe poisoning.
Next, chocolate is not suitable for dogs. The purine components in chocolate threaten the normal operation of a dog's nervous system and heart. Early symptoms mainly include neuroexcitation and accelerated heartbeat, while later stages show obvious inhibitory effects, and sometimes even lead to sudden death due to heart failure. Additionally, xylitol foods are also prohibited. Xylitol has an insulin-like effect, and feeding it to dogs may cause severe consequences such as shock.
Lastly, it is not recommended to feed dogs with hard bones that have sharp edges, such as chicken bones and duck bones. Feeding these foods can easily cause scratches or blockages in the digestive tract, severely threatening a dog's health. In summary, it is recommended to feed dog food as the main diet. Regular dog treats such as canned dog food, freeze-dried products, and crispy bones can be given as snacks. Human food should be avoided as much as possible.
