What to do if a newly born kitten is dying
If a newly born kitten is on the verge of death, it is recommended that the owner immediately take the kitten to a pet hospital for treatment. This is because it is relatively difficult to save the kitten at home in this situation. During the journey to the pet hospital, the owner needs to pay attention to keeping the kitten warm and checking its mouth. If there is a large amount of mucus in the mouth, it needs to be cleared promptly to avoid respiratory obstruction, which can lead to insufficient oxygen carried by the kitten's blood and potentially cause death.
In cases like this, owners usually need to do the following:
If the kitten is found to be cold all over, the first priority is to keep it warm. The owner can transfer body heat to the kitten by holding it close to their body and constantly monitor its heartbeat and breathing.
If there is discharge around the kitten's nose and mouth, use a nasal aspirator to remove the discharge promptly to prevent it from being aspirated into the lungs and causing pneumonia, which could lead to death.
A kitten in a state of hypoglycemia and dehydration shock may also appear weak and on the verge of death. If the kitten does not vomit, use a syringe to feed it a small amount of liquid food, such as goat's milk or slightly diluted nutritional paste.
Note: In severe cases, if the kitten's condition is weak, after following the above points, it is recommended to take the kitten to a pet hospital as soon as possible for diagnosis, treatment, and investigation of the cause. Moreover, if the dying kitten is caused by an infectious disease, the rescue time must be urgent. The earlier the treatment starts, the greater the chance of the kitten's survival.
