What to do if your dog has diarrhea after taking deworming medicine
There are three main reasons why a dog may experience diarrhea after taking deworming medicine:
- Too many parasites in the dog's stomach
If your dog has a large number of parasites, taking deworming medicine can stimulate the parasites, causing them to become overly active and leading to diarrhea. This is a normal phenomenon and should not cause concern. Once the parasites in your dog's body are eliminated, the diarrhea will stop. It is important to regularly deworm your dog to prevent this issue.
- Weak stomach and intestines of the dog
Some dogs have fragile stomachs and intestines. After taking deworming medicine, the stomach and intestines may be stimulated, causing diarrhea. This is also a normal occurrence and there is no need for excessive worry. If you are still concerned, you can give your dog specialized pet probiotics to regulate its digestion.
- Overdose of deworming medicine
If the dosage of deworming medicine is not properly calculated based on your dog's weight, it can cause harm to your dog's body and lead to diarrhea. In addition, it will not achieve optimal deworming results. If you suspect that the diarrhea is caused by an overdose of deworming medicine, you can give your dog diarrhea medication containing ingredients such as kaolin and bismuth subcarbonate. Also, keep a close eye on your dog's condition.
Remember to strictly follow the instructions when giving your dog deworming medicine. If you are unsure about the dosage, consult a veterinarian.
