Why do cats like to bite humans?

There are several main reasons why cats like to bite their owners:

  1. Teething period: When cats are teething, they tend to bite their owners' hands as if they were chewing toys.

  2. Food residue on the hands: If there is a smell of food on the owner's hands, cats might mistake them for food and bite them.

  3. Hand-playing habit: If the owner often plays with the cat using their hands, the cat might see their owner's hand as a toy.

However, sometimes cats cannot control their strength and may cause the owner pain. It is recommended to stop the cat's biting behavior immediately, scold them loudly, and make them understand subconsciously that this kind of behavior is not appreciated.

  1. Teething period:

Most cats will experience tooth grinding at the age of 6-7 months. During this time, they may often bite their owner's hands, using them as a chewing tool to alleviate the discomfort of teething. In this case, you can prepare some bite-sized toys or chew sticks for the cat to distract them and reduce the itchiness of their gums.

  1. Food residue on the hands:

If there is a smell of food on the owner's hands, the cat may bite them thinking they are food. Also, if the owner usually feeds the cat by hand, the cat may gently lick or bite the owner's hand when they feel hungry, hoping for some food. At this time, you can feed the cat some cat food or meat, but avoid feeding human food, especially food with spices and seasonings, which can increase the load on the kidneys.

  1. Treating the owner's hand as a toy:

If the owner often plays with the cat using their hands, the cat may mistake their owner's hand as a toy, resulting in biting or holding the owner's hand and kicking with their back feet. It is recommended to use cat toys to play with the cat regularly so that they will gradually stop thinking of the owner's hand as a toy.
