What to do if your cat likes to bite people

Cat biting can be addressed through various methods such as loudly scolding, scent repellent, adopting another cat, using a consistent training method, and avoiding direct hand-to-cat play. Additionally, kittens may bite due to teething discomfort, which can be relieved by providing them with chew toys, snacks, and toys to distract them.

  1. Loudly scold

Cats are sensitive to sound, so when they bite, owners can loudly reprimand them or make angry noises to make them aware of how unwanted this behavior is. They can also gently tap the cat's forehead or bottom to let them know that biting is wrong. Be sure to control the force, neither too hard nor too soft, otherwise, the cat may become resentful or think it's a game.

Remember, do not shake your hand or leg lightly when bitten, as the cat might think it's a prey or that you're playing a game with it.

  1. Scent repellent

If a cat frequently bites a specific part of your body, apply cat-unfriendly scents like rubbing alcohol, perfume, or orange peels to that area. Since cats have short memories, repeat this process multiple times until they break the habit.

  1. Adopt another cat

Often, cats bite out of boredom and want to play with their owners, not to attack them. Especially in single-cat households, cats may bite because they have no companions and resort to playing with their owners. If conditions permit, consider adopting another cat to keep them company, reducing the frequency of cat bites.

  1. Use a consistent training method

If a cat has multiple owners, ensure a unified training approach to avoid confusion. Keep it simple or else the cat may become unsure of right and wrong, including biting.

  1. Stop directly touching the cat during play

When interacting with your cat, avoid using your hands as this can lead to biting habits. Instead, purchase toys for them to play with.

By following these tips, you can effectively address your cat's biting issues while maintaining a healthy and enjoyable relationship with them.
