Why does my dog pee in its bed?
Dog peeing in its bed may be caused by various reasons, such as revenge, lack of toilet training, or urinary system diseases.
- Revenge
Dogs usually pee in the designated spot chosen by their owners. However, if the dog becomes angry with the owner due to being scolded or beaten, some petty dogs might seek revenge by peeing in their bed. In some cases, the dog might even pee on the owner's bed. When a dog makes a mistake, owners should not be too strict or aggressive in disciplining them. It is recommended to use a gentler approach to teach the dog, which can help the dog develop a more gentle and obedient personality.
- Lack of toilet training
If the dog is still young and hasn't formed a habit of going to the bathroom in a specific spot, it will pee and poop wherever it feels like it. In this case, you can start training the dog once it gets older. For example, collect the dog's urine in diapers and place them in a designated area. Let the dog smell its own urine to familiarize itself with the smell. Then, take the dog to the designated spot frequently and reward it when it goes to the bathroom there. Over time, the dog will learn to go to the bathroom in the specified location.
- Urinary system diseases
If your dog pees in its bed along with symptoms such as frequent urination, pain during urination, dribbling urine, or incomplete urination, it's likely due to a urinary system disease, such as urinary tract infection, cystitis, or urinary stones. Due to the stimulation of inflammation and stones, the dog cannot control its urine output and ends up peeing in its bed. This situation is more severe, and it is recommended that owners take their dogs to the vet for examination and treatment promptly.
