Why isn't Teddy's fur curly?
1. Shaving causing: Since dogs have sensitive skin, frequently shaving Teddy's fur will stimulate the hair follicles, causing the growing hair to grow slowly, become coarser, and lose its curl.
2. Skin diseases: When a dog has a skin disease, the new hair grown will not only have a different color but also lose its curl.
3. Nutrition issues: Insufficient protein intake will make the dog's fur dull and straight.
4. Knotting: Frequent knotting of Teddy's fur can lead to non-curly hair.
5. Breed issues: If the parents are not purebred Teddies or have unstable bloodlines, it is possible for Teddy to have non-curly fur.
1. Shaving causing: If you shave your dog, the new grown fur might not be curly. This is possibly because the dog's skin is sensitive and gets stimulated by the electric shaver, causing the attached hair to grow slowly and become coarser. Therefore, the idea that trimming Teddy's fur can make it curlier also has this risk.
2. Skin diseases: It could be a systemic skin disease that causes the fur to lose its curl. When a dog has a systemic skin disease, the new grown fur will not only have a different color but also lose its curl. So, protect Teddy's skin.
3. Nutrition issues: High-quality protein intake will make the dog's fur soft and glossy. However, lower-quality dog food contains excessive starch and plant protein, making the dog's fur grow harder. Many Teddies with non-curly fur have relatively harder and larger curls.
4. Knotting: If Teddy's fur often knots and unknots, it means that some hair will fall out in the form of pulling, and the growing hair will be harder and lose its curl.
5. Breed issues: There is information stating that "Miniature Poodles and Toy Poodles might have been developed by crossing Standard Poodles with Maltese and Havanese." So, it's understandable that some Teddy's fur will never curl throughout their life, which is commonly known as "atavism" or "ancestral inheritance."
