Half-closed eyes while sleeping
It's not uncommon for cats to sleep with their eyes half-open, as cat sleep positions can be quite varied. Generally, cats who sleep with their eyes open may have a unique sleeping style, and owners don't need to worry too much. However, if the cat's eyes cannot close, it can affect the cat's sleep quality and vision, so it is recommended to send the cat to the hospital for inspection.
Half-closed eyes while sleeping
This is a normal situation, caused by a lack of security during sleep. Each time a cat sleeps, the duration is usually not long, not exceeding 4 hours, but the accumulated time can be significant. Therefore, it's common to see cats sleeping with their eyes open. The sleep time of cats is also affected by weather, breeding season, and age.
Cat stress response symptoms
Alert phase: The body mobilizes its resources and enters a state of readiness through a series of neurophysiological changes. This phase can be divided into the shock phase and anti-shock phase. In the shock phase, symptoms such as decreased blood pressure, increased vascular permeability, decreased blood concentration, and decreased body temperature may occur. The manifestations of the anti-shock phase are opposite to those of the shock phase.
Resistance phase: At this stage, neurophysiological changes continue to occur, and the body fully utilizes its resources to deal with various emergencies. Exhaustion phase: When the body's hormones and essential trace elements are depleted, certain cells and tissues are destroyed, and post-traumatic stress disorder occurs. This stage occurs only when the stress factor is severe or persistent. If it continues to develop, it will lead to death.
How to deal with cat stress response
First, the owner needs to find the cause of the stress that triggers the cat's response. If it's a new cat that has just been brought home, you can bring some items it has used before, such as toys. These items have its scent, which can help it relax. If you suddenly change the cat's food, it may also cause stress. The owner should choose food similar to the previous one to minimize stomach discomfort caused by stress. Sudden changes in shampoo may also cause a stress response in cats, so the owner needs to find a suitable shampoo or the one they used before.
When you notice that the cat has already developed stress responses, do not disturb it and do not give it too much water or food. Let it adapt slowly on its own.
