What to do if a kitten can't close its eyes while sleeping
It is possible that a kitten's eyes remain open while sleeping due to reasons such as foreign objects in the eyes, ingrown eyelashes, or a lack of security. Here are some suggestions for owners to address this issue:
Check for foreign objects in the eyes: If there are dust, hair, or debris in the kitten's eyes, they may continuously stimulate the eyes, causing discomfort when closing them. In this case, owners should carefully examine the eyes and use physiological saline to rinse them out. Then, apply antibacterial and anti-inflammatory eye drops to prevent infection and alleviate the discomfort.
Eyelash ingrowth: If a kitten's eyelashes grow inward, they can continuously irritate the cornea, leading to difficulty in closing the eyes. Untreated, this condition can further damage the eye and even lead to blindness. Once eyelash ingrowth is detected, it is essential to consult a veterinarian for surgical treatment.
Lack of security: Cats are naturally vigilant animals. If they lack a sense of security during sleep, their nerves remain tense, and their eyes may not close properly. To address this, owners should provide a cozy sleeping environment and ensure the kitten feels secure.
If a kitten trusts its owner enough, it will choose a comfortable sleeping position without any precautions.
