Do cats recognize their owners?

Cats usually begin to recognize their owners about two months after they arrive at their new homes. However, from the cat's perspective, the owner is more like a friend or mother, a trusted provider of food. After the cat recognizes its owner, it will demonstrate closeness and trust towards the owner, always wanting to stick close by and emit relaxed purrs. Additionally, cats will actively rub against people, act cute and claim ownership of their owners. Although cats have poor obedience, they will respond to their owner's calls after recognizing them and seek help from their owners for eating and drinking needs.

  1. Although cats are relatively independent and sensitive, with a strong sense of caution, they will recognize their owners after getting familiar with them. Generally, about two months after the cat arrives at its new home, it will begin to recognize its owner. At this time, the cat will demonstrate greater closeness and trust towards its owner, marking the beginning of a better relationship between the owner and the cat.

  2. To determine if a cat has recognized its owner, you can observe if the cat exhibits the following behaviors:

Firstly, when the owner is asleep, the cat always wants to stick close to the owner and emit purring sounds, indicating that it has recognized the owner. Secondly, the cat will actively rub against the owner's legs and meow cuteily for attention. Cats have a strong sense of possession and will leave their scent on the owner by rubbing against them, showing that they trust the owner and consider them their own. Thirdly, although cats have poor obedience, once they recognize their owner, they will come over immediately when called or look back at the owner. Additionally, when the cat has demands for eating or drinking, it will seek help from the owner right away.

  1. However, it should be noted that there are some differences between cats and dogs in terms of recognizing owners. In the cat's world, there are only three relationships: friends, enemies, and strangers. Therefore, from the cat's perspective, a familiar and close owner is more like a friend or mother. If the cat is raised from birth, it may regard the owner as its cat mother. However, if the cat is not raised from a young age, the relationship between the owner and the cat is more likely to be that of friends, where the cat sees the owner as a provider of food and its closest friend.
